What is Scouting?
Scouting is a worldwide youth movement with more than 57 million members. In South Africa it is run by SCOUTS South Africa, and every Scout group, including ours, is part of it.
Its aim is to help young people develop to their full potential, physically, mentally, socially and spiritually, as responsible citizens and members of their communities.
- Learning by doingCamping, hiking, cooking on a fire, first aid and pioneering, learnt hands-on rather than from a book.
- Small teamsYoung people work in Sixes and Patrols, so everyone has a part to play and learns to lead.
- Values and serviceThe Scout Promise and Law, and service to the community, are at the heart of everything we do.
- Badges and challengesA progressive programme with badges and awards that celebrate each young person's growth.
Keeping young people safe
Every adult leader is screened before they work with young people: a police clearance, a check against the national sexual offences register, an interview and Safe from Harm training. SCOUTS South Africa's Child Protection Policy applies to every activity, and parents give written consent before every camp or outing.
